PANAMA CITY, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Several of Panama's media showed their disappointment on Saturday when they reviewed Panama's 5-0 defeat to Argentina on Friday evening.

It was Panama's second game in Group D of the 2016 Centennial Copa America taking place in the United States.

Panamanian daily La Prensa used the headline "Panama couldn't against Argentina", reflecting the disappointment felt after it had looked likely that the national side may stand a chance against the runners up in the last World Cup.

The newspaper highlighted that Argentina won with three goals from soccer star Lionel Messi during a match where Panama played with 10 men for a large part of the game after Anibal Godoy was sent off in the first half.

"Messi struck us down" was the headline on the morning daily El Panama America, summing up the most important turning point of Friday's match.

"Argentina woke up with Messi's entrance ... and they took advantage of an opponent with inferior numbers," wrote the newspaper about the match which allowed Argentina to secure their passage to the tournament's quarter finals.

The match was played in the Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago and at the start of the match, Panama's fans were hopeful for a positive result after beating Bolivia 2-1 in their opening match.

In order to be in with a chance of qualifying for the quarter finals, Panama has to win the last match in the group stage against Chile on Tuesday. Enditem

BUENOS AIRES, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors and River Plate, the two most popular soccer teams in Argentina, are going through a difficult time in the First Division tournament as they are both getting further away from winning mainly due to the lack of replacement players.

After playing the tenth match in the tournament, which still has six matches left to go, River drew 2-2 at home against a modest Sarmiento de Junin, after being 2-0 up. The team currently has only 10 points in the tournament which is half as many as leaders Godoy Cruz (20 points).

In the mediocre 10th place, they are closer to the bottom of the Zone A results table than the top.

With Boca, the situation is not much different. They lost 0-2 away to Tigre recently and, with 14 points, 11 away from Zone B leaders Lanus. There are seven teams ahead of them in the table.

With numerous soccer schools made up of players that will probably make headlines in future matches, the coaching staff have been unable to come up with a structure that will allow them to compete at the same level and what is left of the season should be spent focusing on the Copa Libertadores de America tournament.

Even though both teams are in a similar situation, there are some differences. While Marcelo Gallardo is about to celebrate his second year as River's coach, Boca's Guillermo Barros Schelotto only arrived at the club 45 days ago and is looking to find his new team's identity mid-season.

However, both coaches had the same message to give after last weekend's disappointing matches. The players lack the required level and they were mainly substitutes and not main players before.

TOKYO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Defense Minister Tomomi Inada visited the notorious war-linked Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on Thursday, a day after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe returned from his "non-apology" trip to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The visit by Inada, who is a close ally of Abe, followed an earlier visit by Japan's disaster reconstruction minister Masahiro Imamura, and further proved that the Abe administration has no intention of true wartime reconciliation, but merely used the Pearl Harbor trip as a stage for its global diplomatic show.

Inada, who had in fact accompanied Abe to Pearl Harbor, visited the notorious war-linked shrine early Thursday morning and said that she put down "Defense Minister Tomomi Inada" as her name in the visitor's log at the shrine.

She claimed that she made the visit to report to the war dead that "Japan and the United States, which waged the harshest battles, are now in the strongest alliance relationship... in hopes of building peace for Japan and the world."

The fact that she deliberately ignored, however, is that the shrine, honoring 14 Class-A convicted war criminals among 2.5 million Japanese war dead from World War II, is predominantly regarded as a symbol of past Japanese militarism, and is no place for "praying for peace."

When asked about Inada's Yasukuni visit at a golf course in Chigasaki near Tokyo on Thursday, Abe simply said "No comment."
